One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Los Angeles is regaining the limelight, and the opening of boutique hotel Alsace LA is indicative of this trend. At the same time, the 48-room property adds to the buzz with a hospitality format that’s unrivalled in this part of town. Developed by real estate and infrastructure firm CIM Group in collaboration with local practice Neil M. Denari Architects and Home Studios in New York City, the hotel comes with a lush 2,000 sq.ft. (186 sqm.) interior courtyard and a secluded in-ground pool retreat embellished with desert landscaping. The West Adams neighbourhood is dotted with storied architectural gems that reflect a rich history, and Alsace LA fits right in, riffing on charming elements like Bauhaus-inspired curves, white oak ceilings and floors, and site-specific art.

Boasting an emphasis on the unexpected, the hotel is a unique space, made culturally relevant through a sophisticated mix of contemporary art, photography, and playful design details in settings which reference California’s diverse vegetation and natural environment though fluted textures, terracotta plaster, and warm wood materials. From the Mediterranean-style lobby to the guest rooms and studios and public spaces, the property oozes style yet it’s homey and intimate at the same time. All rooms feature handcrafted details, while larger rooms also feature a balcony or terrace, a custom dining table, and a bespoke pull-out sofa. Adding a subtle hipster touch to any guest’s stay is legendary music shop High-Fidelity‘s curation of both the lobby’s ambient sounds, as well as all in-room playlists.

As for facilities, Alsace LA will feature a new restaurant concept this winter, featuring both indoor and outdoor dining options off the hotel courtyard, but in the meantime guests can indulge in complimentary coffee and pastries. The hotel has partnered with nearby Hi-Lo Liquor Market which curates boxes of bespoke local wine, beer, spirits, and snacks for guests to order on demand and have delivered directly to their room. Also to be found on the premises is a state-of-the-art, 24-hour fitness centre featuring essentials such as a treadmill, bike, rower, dual pulley system, kettlebells and free weights. Outdoor exercise? Check. The hotel offers complimentary guest bikes and monthly historical neighbourhood bike tours which allows guest to pick up a thing or two of the area along the way. Last but not least, for guests in town for business, Alsace LA has a private meeting room readily available, featuring a 12-seat boardroom-style table, flat screen HDTV, and all the prerequisite conference room audiovisual equipment.
