It’s an omnipresent material yet rarely gains the limelight, but Banema Studio firmly sets the record straight. The recently launched retail extension of Banema, one of Portugal‘s leading manufacturers of wood products and derivatives, focuses on the alluring diversity of timber in a setting that simply oozes contemporary lifestyle. Situated on the ground floor of a modern residential building in Campo de Ourique, a leafy downtown area of Lisbon, the concept store occupies a ground floor unit of approx. 300 sqm. (3,229 sq.ft.) and integrates the company’s Banema Lab concept, a space first introduced in 2016 in Porto, the country’s second biggest city, to meet the needs and requirements of architects and interior designers. The interior design, created by local practice Campos Costa Arquitetos, breaks with expectations and symbiotically combines two concepts that are essentially opposed.

Two large volumes, created from a striking green melamine by Cleaf and HI-MACS‘ acrylic stone, anchor the interior design while also clearly demarcating the domains of the aforementioned entities—the latter is linear and objective whereas Banema Studio is sinuous in form, while collectively providing display areas and storage. Banema Studio is a hybrid space which has embedded the company’s expertise and offerings to professionals and consumers in a welcoming social context, allowing visitors to explore work a wide range of products, but also works of designers, artisans, and artists. The homey setting has an evolving nature as it’ll regularly be updated with new presentations of accessories, art, design, fragrances, lighting, lifestyle and furniture. Banema Studio lifestyle product list features top brands from home and abroad, and currently includes Apotheke Fragrance, Ramos Cerâmica, Design House Stockholm, Barbudo Aborrecido, Hay and Alguidar Knit, in addition to a collection of objects designed by architects Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto Moura.
