Hot on the heels of the inauguration of a new Milan retail space, cult Amsterdam-based streetwear brand Patta has ventured onto untrodden ground, opening a new store in what’s arguably Africa‘s most vibrant megalopolis—Lagos. Mind you, the opening anticipates the city’s somewhat stealth rise as a fashion and lifestyle hub on a global scale. However, a growing young, savvy, and last but not least, well-heeled local demographic has been around the block a few times, and the store location in Lekki, an affluent ocean-side neighbourhood, isn’t accidental. The Patta team have teamed up with Waffles ‘n Cream, Nigeria‘s very first skate store, to establish the store, and needless to say, just like its other stores in Amsterdam, London, and its newly opened shop in Milan, the latest outpost is deeply connected to the host city’s happening cultural scene.

Given Patta‘s inextricable link to music, the retail space unapologetically celebrates Nigeria’s booming music scene, from legends like Fela Kuti to modern icons like Wizkid and Rema. The store occupies a unit right next to the Waffles ‘n Cream shop at Trocadero Square, a three-storey shopping centre with like-minded retailers and businesses. Clean and understated, the setting sees whitewashed walls paired with large terrazzo tiles. Furnishings and fixtures are sparse and simple, comprising a timber sales counter and bench, and two metal and wood displays. Two large Marshall speakers and amplifier signal the brand’s aforementioned strong musical connection. The new Patta store stocks a curated range of apparel items, bags, shoes and accessories, and some are even store exclusive. As said, it’s more than a retail space, aiming to be a meeting space for the local fanbase and creatives alike. © superfuture.com
