After opening up shop in Stockholm, London and Copenhagen, sneaker brand Axel Arigato shifts back the focus to homebase Gothenburg, launching a new retail space across the road from its head office in the historic heart of the city. The Swedish brand has opted for a ground floor unit of a mid-19th century building by architect Jonas Hagberg (1788-1839). Lofty and light, thanks to a series of large floor-to-ceiling windows, the retail space is understated and industrial inspired. It’s a renewed collab of Axel Arigato’s creative director Max Svärdh and lauded Stockholm-based architect Christian Halleröd, and has intentionally resulted in an aesthetic that’s quite different from the previous stores. Walls are covered in shiny non-slip metal sheets and paired with asphalt flooring, a matching backdrop for a variety of sturdy furnishings, all crafted from steel and dipped in pale yellow, Axel Arigato‘s striking new branding colour. Each piece may serve a purpose, but their distinct architectural appearance lends a highly visual relevance to this space. The new Axel Arigato store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s sneakers, in addition to its growing collection of accessories and objects. Earlier this year, the Swedish brand secured a considerable investment from a London-based investment company, and this store bears testament of ambitious retail expansion plans. Early next year, the pop-up store in Copenhagen will be replaced by a standalone store, while plans are underway to open additional outposts in Paris and New York City.
