tokyo: nikelab ma5 opening

we had already been wondering about the intriguing space that hiroshi fujiwara's the pool aoyama concept store left behind, but as of today it'll be the new home of a store concept by nike. following similar outposts in new york citylondon, paris, milan, shanghai and hong kong, it's in tokyo's aoyama district where the latest nikelab store will open its doors. officially baptized nikelab ma5, it features an interior design that adapts well to the spatial dynamics of the former swimming pool, using sustainable materials, adaptable furnishings and various local integrations. the nike design team has collaborated with long-tome engineering partner and miniwiz founder arthur huang to create an environment that would also incorporate typically japanese elements in the design to reflect local culture. as a the aesthetic fuses tech wirh traditional elements, and this is arguably most evident in the digitally-powered fitting rooms which flaunt both tatami mat floors and locally sourced timber walls. the nikelab ma5 store carries the line's full range of apparel, accessories and shoes, and will additionally feature a special display for its coveted nikelab acg collectionlocation: château toyo minami aoyama, 5-12-24 minami aoyama [aoyama].
