st. barth's: forms wresting with existence

a daughter of a contemporary artist dad and a fashion designer mom, you could say lola montes schnabel is quite generously blessed with artistic genes. banking on this favourable predisposition, montes schnabel graduated from the prestigious cooper union in new york city while hanging out with cool artists to test the water for an artistic career of her own. the budding artist has dabbled in a vast range of media, from video to design and graphics to publishing. her work always contains a taste for the mystic, captured in a distinctive personal style.

montes schnabel will be having an exhibition, entitled forms wresting with existence, at the eden rock gallery on st. barth's, and opening there on sat - feb 1 [6pm-9pm]. she's actually a regular to the sunny caribbean island, and has painted there since her teens. initially finding inspiration in objects and scenery of daily island life, the new paintings on display project a more mature, colour-infused perception and fantasy, dotted with abstract symbols, sea monsters and erotic figures. location: eden rock hotel, baie de st.-jean [st. barth's].
