monocle magazine is known to be right at home in unexpected places, but perhaps most so at the planet's most dynamic crossroads. next to news hubs, or bureaux in typical monocle jargon, its global network includes an expanding number of much publicized retail outlets. after having launched a pop-up store last year at booksactually in singapore, it has returned to open a permanent and upgraded presence. tucked away in suburban holland village, is monocle new southeast asian bureau. housed in a two-storey 1950s townhouse, it's not only home to the region's news staff - mind you, they'll also do broadcasts from an in-house radio studio - but it also accommodates a stylish retail extension, aptly named the monocle shop, and a monocle café where to relax and hang out with friends.

the store, measuring a compact 62 sqm. [667 sq.ft.], features a smart and welcoming setting that combines oak panelling and slatted screens with usm storage and vitsœ shelving. the shop's offerings are varied and tightly edited, and currently include esk travel clothing and gold-plated paperweights, but also collab products such as porter x monocle tote bags and for die-hard fans even monocle's very first edition signed by mister brûlé. equally quality-drive, the café is staffed by baristas who serve allpress coffee from professional machinery, and it even has a tranquil outdoor garden space. additional buzz comes from upstairs where both monocle and affiliated agency winkreative have their offices. location: 74 jalan kelabu asap [holland village].
