ghurka is an artisanal bag and accessories brand based in new york city. taking its name from the heroic brigade of ghurka soldiers in the colonial british indian army, the brand's aesthetic is very much inspired by their officers' campaign gear and bears a distinct classic signature. after opening two stores in homebase new york, ghurka shifts its focus to the u.s. west coast to open a flagship store in san francisco, a familiar town for the heritage brand as founder marley hodgson successfully operated a boutique there back in the 1980s and 1990s. the new store has in fact opened on the very same street and features an interior that's as timeless as ghurka itself.

measuring 1,000 sq.ft. [93 sqm.], the design highlights of the new boutique include original art nouveau vintage bakery casework that dates back to the turn of the century, sourced by ghurka c.e.o. john reuter himself. a hand-painted, large-scale strategic military map mural adorns the back wall and a selection of cherry-picked props complete the theme. the store's official opening is on tue - dec 10 with a private event that benefits the san francisco zoological society, an ideal partner as ghurka is all about travel, adventure, and exploring the planet...in great style, that is. the new ghurka flagship store carries the brand's full range of business and casual leather goods, as well accessories including wallets, pouches, and gifts. location: 245 post street [union square].
