tierney gearon is an acclaimed photographer based in los angeles. initially studying ballet, gearon was scouted by a model agent and then pursued a career in the fashion business. during this time she taught herself the tricks of photography and eventually became a fashion photographer. gearon gained artistic recognition - and a certain notoriety along the way - for her powerfully colourful work when she participated in the i am a camera group exhibition in 2001 at the saatchi gallery in london with portraits of children. these included two naked poses, one of her son urinating in the snow. complaints by the public and a police threat to seize the artworks amazingly spawned huge media coverage. currently at colette in paris, is the artist's first ever show in france. on display are photographs from gearon's colorshape series, in addition to work from her new book called alphabet [on through dec 2]. mind you, tierney gearon will be at the store on fri - nov 15 [5pm-6.30pm] for a related book signing session. location: 213 rue st.-honoré [st.-honoré].
