paris: be the change you want to see

pictures speak louder than words, but what if you combine the two? opening today [5pm-9pm] at galerie nuke is be the change you want to see, an exhibition of new paintings by french writer + artist thomas lélu. lélu's dual training in both painting and visual communication has resulted in a body of work that's literally multi-layered. his artistic vision shuns the traditional practice of applied art that aims to be merely decorative and pleasing, and instead he is looking for a dynamic confrontation between text and image through a deconstruction of visual media stereotypes. the paintings on display may criticize consumerism but have a been reworked in such an aesthetic way that they actually seem to advocate it [on through may 5]. don't miss! location: 11 rue sainte-anastase [marais].
