despite his young age, one could say that phillip salem is fashion veteran. after various stints in the forefront of new york city's fashion scene, the fit graduate  concluded the city lacked an innovative retail environment with inspiring offerings and last but not least personalized service. et voilà, the stylish owen store opened its doors in the west village. designed by jeremy barbour of tacklebox architecture, the 167 sqm. retail space boasts a striking interior that incorporates 25,000 paper bags on a continuous surface that arches from floor to ceiling on one side, and an exposed brick wall on the other. the repetition of the paper bags results in a honeycomb-like structure that defines a warm, organic volume that sits within the existing industrial brick and concrete space.

adding up to the adventurous vibe are quartz slab tables, blackened steel hang-bars and steel and glass vitrines whose linearity and crisp details sit in contrast to the delicate texture of the paper arch beyond. so, what's in store at owen? having a focus on contemporary fashion that's modern and structured, there's a lot of cool brands to browse through. the offerings include patrik ervell, robert geller, property of..., tim hamilton, and wood wood for men, and hyden yoo, preen line, henrik vibskov, faux real and rodebjer for women. happy shopping! location: 809 washington street [west village].
