there's no denying francisco polo and markus herchet are always up for a professional challenge. after stirring up bangkok's retail scene with the opening of we*do gallery, a hybrid retail and gallery space with a focus on innovative design, the design curator and interior architect decided to trade up and relocate to even more dynamic turf: miami. the duo continue their endeavours in the realm of design and art, and have set up a new conceptual space in the city's buzzing little river neighbourhood. situated just north of the design district, it's an area of town which has seen an influx of creative businesses that create quite a buzz. the new venue is called aybar gallery and occupies part of a modern warehouse, and not surprisingly, the interior – dipped in a pristine white hue – has a distinct utilitarian vibe that forms a perfect backdrop for what's on display. from their new base, polo and herchet offer curational services while also curating design shows and commissioning limited edition pieces from leading designers and emerged talents that'll be showcased at this venue. aybar gallery's inaugural show, very appropriately entitled preface, presents a selection of intricately crafted works by amsterdam-based studio formafantasma and artist marre moerel from madrid, all handpicked by polo [on through may]. location: 290 n.e. 71st street [little river].
