los angeles: this is why i'm such a mess

artists hyland mather and mando marie are friends, and their bonding proved to be good enough to collaborate artistically. the creative output is currently on display in an exbition at c.a.v.e. gallery in los angeles. the show, somewhat puzzlingly entitled this is why i'm such a mess, presents works inspired by their travels around the sunny coasts of california and the iberian peninsula. the crafty duo have concocted a series of double sided canvas pieces called flipsides, and which feature mather's geometric minimal paintings on one side, and marie's illustrative paintings on the other. additionally, marie puts on display works on paper and a series of old book inventively covers used as canvases for her paintings, and mather presents, as an homage to his many coastal outings, laser cut pieces made from a single sheet of found wood. location: c.a.v.e. gallery, 55 north venice boulevard [venice beach].
