london: mass appeal

© mr phomer

mr phomer is a london-based portuguese artist with a keen eye for anything related to urban culture and a wicked inclination to give it a personal twist. the artist transitioned from a street graffiti past to an acclaimed professional context, creating works such as like a moss and i shit on gaga in which he disfigures famous pop culture icons on adverts as a way to bring the street culture back to the streets and make a point about society's prevailing consumerism. mr phomer returns to the limelight with a body of exemplary new work that extends the famed irony and social criticism, captured in unique and witty mash-ups of photography and illustrations with a street flavour that's distinctly east london. this solo exhibition, very appropriately titled mass appeal, opens thu - oct 3 [6pm-2am] at the book club in london. location: 100-106 leonard street [shoreditch].
