following the major design exhibition curated by konstantin grcic in 2009, serpentine galleries have invited london-based italian designer martino gamper to curate a new design show. held at the new serpentine sackler gallery, the exhibition is entitled martino gamper - design is a state of mind and presents a variety of shelving systems that elaborate on the story of design objects and their impact on our lives. gamper claims that there's no perfect design and no über-design, and instead objects talk to us personally and evoke an emotional attachment that's very individual as well.

the pieces on display obviously represent a very personal way of collecting and gathering objects. they originate from different eras, from the 1930s to the present day and include historic design classics and one-off pieces, to industrial, utilitarian, contemporary and newly commissioned work. and yes, it's pretty much a who's who in design, featuring works by gaetano pesce, ettore sottsass, ercol, giò ponti, but also by ikea. also showcased is an abundance of objects curated from gamper's personal archives and those of friends and colleagues [on through apr 21]. location: serpentine sackler gallery, west carriage drive, kensington gardens [knightsbridge].
