london's renowned institute of contemporary arts has quite a lot in common with fashion brand comme des garçons. both audaciously explore the outer limits of creativity and acknowledge the value of innovation and craftsmanship. but what we didn't know was that ica previously occupied the multi-storey building of the dover street market store in mayfair, before it relocated to its current location. moreover, this is also the cradle of pop artop art and brutalist architecture, and where the independent group formed and regularly met. well, we can't help thinking this switch was just meant to be. interestingly, the ica has returned to its former homebase for a massive showcase that encompasses all six floors of the dover street market store. throughout the premises specially reimagined and large scale imagery from the ica’s archives is prominently put on display, ranging from greeting cards from the 1950s and 1960s, francis bacon’s first ever show covers, ica bulletin covers and lots more [on through apr 6]. location: 17-18 dover street [mayfair].
