céline has not had a london store of its own since closing down its previous shop in 2009. to the great delight of fans, the fashion brand has now set the record straight with stellar new premises on mount street, an address we think is a tad more appropriate. occupying 300 sqm. [6,458 sq.ft.] on the ground floor of modern, seven-storey structure built in 1938. céline's hailed creative director phoebe philo designed the shop interior and this is instantly visibile when entering the boutique. the interior design reflects the minimalism the brand is known for, but ornate elements have been blended in that reference céline's more, let's say, frivolous direction of late. still, the setting is mostly understated, featuring a hybrid visual interplay of clean graphic lines, captured in a subtle mix of natural materials.

the marble floor inlaid with semi-precious stones oozes sheer luxe but it's cleverly balanced out by dividing walls stuccoed in a discreet soft grey hue and a mosaic of suspended geometric backlit panels that adorn the ceiling in orderly bands. softening the austerity is a range of beautifully crafted furnishings. philo collaborated with danish artist thomas poulsen a.k.a. fos on a striking chandelier, matching life-size floor lamps, a salon table and door handles. the new céline store carries the brand's full range of apparel, accessories, shoes, and of course the range of trophy bags. the opening in london marks the kick-off for a significant retail expansion to a string of major shopping destinations across the planet, including new york, tokyo, paris, chengdu and las vegas. location: 103 mount street [mayfair].
