the name may have a finnish twang, but minä perhonen is a distinctly japanese brand. founded in 1995 by designer akira minagawa, a graduate of tokyo's prestigious bunka fashion college, many of his fashion designs feature quirky prints and have gained quite a cult following both in japan and abroad. in 2004 minä perhonen first started collaborating with design furniture brand fritz hansen, upholstering arne jacobsen's iconic egg chair with various of its own fabrics. the collab has had quite an appeal on the japanese market and has been continued ever since. the latest collab edition showing the very same chair in select fabrics from minä perhonen's a/w 2013 collection has just been released, and is currently on display at the fritz hansen stores in tokyo [1] and osaka [2]. location [1]: rihito house, 6-8-18 minami-aoyama [aoyama]. location [2]: rihga royal hotel, 5-3-68-b1 nakanoshima [umeda].
