ffixxed is a collab art + design effort of designers kain picken and fiona lau. based in shenzhen, a booming suburb of sorts of hong kong, the australian duo's focus is split between the production of a unisex, ready-to-wear fashion label, and a range of other art and design related activities. the brand's a/w 2012 collection, dubbed home away from home, is all about the concept of global mobility: the places we come  from are no longer the places we call home, and living and working in a place that is not necessarily our own, defines for many, the geopolitical reality of our time. for the coming season ffixxed have collaborated with peruvian artist jota castro, with an image of his installation la nina, la pinta, and the santa maria, reproduced on several pieces. amidst globalisation, exploratory experiences, mobility, transience and migration continue to delineate traditional notions of identity, belonging and community. the garments within this collection will find their own movements within the currents of global exchange, accompanying us on journeys and wanderings, making homes away from homes. shown here are six looks that we particularly like. the ffixxed a/w 2012 collection is available at select stores across the planet, including ooga booga [los angeles], joinery [new york], temporary showroom [berlin], triple major [beijing] and ni d [tokyo].
