descente is a japanese cult skiwear brand with a particularly large following on home turf. cleverly noticing it could take its gear beyond local ski slopes, it launched a retail format earlier this year that carries a mix of pieces from its descente allterrain line, in addition to  and a newly launched and more fashion-inspired collection called descente blanc. following a flagship store in tokyo's daikanyama neighbourhood – an event we talked about in a previous post – descente blanc quickly expanded with two additiona; stores, one of them being in fukuoka which is by far the most prominent city in southern japansituated in daimyo, an upscale shopping and entertainment district in the very heart of the city, the boutique occupies two floors of a modern low-rise building.

the lofty ground floor is features large floor-to-ceiling windows at the front and back that floods it with plenty of day light. similarly to the tokyo store, it's main interior feature is an ingeniously mounted hanger system which neatly presents the coveted ski jackets on offer. the setting is brilliantly austere, and is otherwise defined by concrete flooring, an exposed ceiling and just a few boxy displays made of wood. one floor up, descente blanc's fashion-inspired men's and women's collection is presented, and the setting here is only slightly adapted for the purpose, featuring a kitchen area, as well as a rooftop space and garden where to entertain local shoppers. location: 1-14-19 daimyo [daimyo].
