© mathaf - arab museum of modern art the arab gulf states have been riding the economic express train for a few decades now but only recently have they diversified their economies and manifested themselves in fields other than oil and gas with the same global aspirations. qatar is one of those states that uses culture as a trump card with the official opening on thu - dec 30 of mathaf - arab museum of modern art on the outskirts of the capital doha. the new arts venue is housed in an existing 5,500 sqm. building that was redesigned by french architect jean-françois bodin. mathaf - arab museum of modern art will present exhibitions and programs with a focus on modern arab art. the museum's collection features over 6,000 works dating from the 1840s to the present. the inaugural show, dubbed najjil - a century of modern art, showcases a cross-section of art from the arab world produced over the last hundred years. location: off al luqta street [education city].
