chicago: kishio suga

hailing from japan, kishio suga [1944] is sculptor and installation artist who also happens to be a leading figure of mono-ha, japanese movement for known for their radical use of elemental materials. a graduate from tama art university in tokyo, suga favours the use of commonly found and unconventional materials, such as timber, rock, sand and concrete, and empty space, and has already exhibited at leading art galleries and museums across the planet. currently on display at shane campbell gallery's fabulous mies van der rohe-designed apartment building venue in chicago is a number of the artist's wall-mounted sculptures, ranging from different periods in his career, and as can be expected, they've been crafted from an eclectic range of materials [on through oct 17 / access is by appointment only]. location: 2400 lakeview avenue [lincoln park].
