stefan behlau [1979] is a swiss painter based in berlin and southern california. a graduate of new york city's prestigious pratt institute, behlau has had exhibitions at leading galleries in both the u.s. and germany. opening wed - sep 17 [6pm-10pm] at dittrich & schlechtriem gallery is gush, the artist's very first solo exhibition in the german capital. presented is a series of new works with acrylic paints from nova color, depicting images whose starting point is the colour sample cards of the aforementioned manufacturer. the new works shown at the show eloborate on the behlau's process-based painting practice. this system has remained more or less the same, but has now been restricted to the use of one gallon of a single colour, imposed upon a canvas in black + white tones, and which allows greater - dare we say more seductive? - innovations in colour, form and rhythm. shown here are three fine examples of behlau's latest concoctions. location: tucholskystrasse 38 [mitte].
