barcelona: despacio

simply brilliant marketing, but we think the event is too. we're talking the supertreat that sónar fans will be getting at the upcoming home edition in barcelona in may. it already features the best lineups year after year, with cool satellite events popping up across the planet. but sónar is still very much on its toes to innovate and indulge its following in new and exciting ways. for the next home edition sónar will launch despacio, an exclusively designed space with a capacity of 1,200 people, where non-stop six-hour dj sets are to be held. powered by mcintosh - and that's quite literally - the space presents a rather astonishing sound system formed of seven 11-foot towers of speakers and amps arranged in a circle, with the sum total of 50,000 watts of mcintosh power.

and you bet it'll be an immersive one-of-a-kind experience! this superduper gizmo is the love child of lcd soundsystem frontman james murphy and new york-based sound engineer john klett. what's pretty sympathetic about the set-up is the fact that the focus of it all is on the partygoers’ experience, instead of the stage spectacle. and quite a spectacle it's going to be. murphy will team up with musical mavericks david and stephen dewaele of 2manydjs fame, and together they'll set the place on fire with a truly eclectic music selection that spans the last 60 years. they'll be playing three daily six-hour sessions from 3.30pm to 9.30pm. be there or be square! click here for tickets.
