born and bred in philadelphia, jim houser [1973] is a self-taught artist and founding member of legendary artist collective space 1026. houser’s work is as diverse as it is imaginitive, exploring the cadence of speech, science and science-fiction, sickness and disease, plants and animals, time travel, ghosts , the art of children and the gravity of fatherhood , codes and code breaking, music and music making. an interesting aspect of his creativity is that he extends his practice of self-examination to include the topic of art making itself. houser's collages, paintings and installations have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the united states, europe, australia and brazil. the latest exhibition of his work opens on fri - jun 5 [6pm-10pm] at andenken/battalion gallery in amsterdam. entitled hush, the show presents a body of work that demonstrates the artist's continuing journey of self-examination, and explores several themes, including the art of children and the gravity of fatherhood , the idea of ghosts and the unseen world , and the inherent poetry in speech. location: pazzanistraat 17 [staatsliedenbuurt].
