amsterdam: art'otel amsterdam opening

although this design hotel chain is headquartered in amsterdam, it oddly lacked a property of its own there. well, until now that is. the new art'otel amsterdam was recently launched in the city's hospitality scene with a big bang, but had already been the talk of the town. housed opposite the imposing central station, the four-star hotel is housed in a 1920s building that originally accommodated the head office of the netherlands steamship company, and vaguely mimics its neighbour's ornate grandeur. art'otel amsterdam, similarly to the chain's other properties across europe, is conceptualized as a contemporary lifestyle hotel that's firmly anchored in the local art and design scene. this artistic edge is particularly emphasized by various striking artworks by dutch design company atelier van lieshout that dot the premises.

the hotel has 107 guest rooms and suites. spread over five floors. the guest rooms - you can opt for two sizes and for one with a so-called iconic view or patio view - feature a sleek modern interior with plenty of amenities you'd expect from a place like this: ultra-comfortable beds with a choice of pillows, a bathroom with rain shower and luxurious bathrobes and slippers, a well-stocked minibar, complimentary wi-fi- access, and to add a personal touch, an original piece of art. measuring at least 69 sqm. [743 sq.ft.], the suites are obviously bigger in size but also provide boosted comfort with a separate living room, an additional sofa and two 42-inch flatscreen televisions. art'otel amsterdam boasts a swimmimg pool and gym that help guests relax and unwind, but its trump card in this department definitely is 5&33.

a lounge, restaurant and library rolled into one, it's the hotel's social hub and a destination in its own right. hospitality here is being defined through an appealing blend of playful modern design, art and technology. the spacious 5&33 has a cosmopolitan vibe, featuring different seating sections around an artsy electronic curtain with emotive footage. it's a place where to meet up with friends for a drink, indulge in sumptuous food, or when duty calls, getting things done on your laptop. the venue also features a 300 sqm. art space [3,229 sq.ft.] one floor below where rotating exhibitions by local creative talent will be hosted. art'otel amsterdam's opening party had the city talking for weeks, before and after the event that is. lucky invitees not only indulged in plenty of bubbly and fine delicacies, but also frantically swayed to beats and songs by deejays and artists, most notably the one-hour set by dj lo down loretta brown a.k.a. miss erykah badu. location: prins hendrikkade 33 [centrum].
