Swedish contemporary fashion brand COS has added another outpost in Italy, and this time, it’s in downtown Florence. The COS store occupies two levels on the premises of Palazzo Dudley, the residence that Robert Dudley, the First Earl of Northumberland (1532-1588), had built in 1613 after he had left England. Over centuries, this rather grand grand residence was passed from generation to generation until it reached possession of an embroidery trader called Francesco Navone in 1912, who installed the dual portal and ornate balcony. As a listed building, obviously most architectural elements have been retained, but at the same time, it has been modernised. Pristine stuccoed walls are paired with the building’s original vaulted and coffered ceilings, while a curated range of new and vintage furnishings further add a distinct sense of modernity to each setting.

The lounge area features Gianfranco Frattini’s voluminous Sesann sofa is paired with the Comacina armchair by Giuseppe Rivadossi. A number of vintage pieces add personality and playfulness, and these include Superstudio’s bright red T01 coffee table, while Vico Magistretti’s Demetrio 45 coffee tables introduce a clean, modernist rhythm to the space. The store’s fitting rooms feature modular seating by Italian designer Joe Colombo. The attention to detail at the COS store also extends to lighting, and includes the unapologetically functional Teti lamps by Vico Magistretti’s Teti lamps and Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni’s whimsical Snoopy lamp. The new COS store carries the full range of women’s and men’s apparel, accessories, bags, shoes, sunglasses, jewellery pieces and fragrances. © superfuture
