Founded in 2019 by five seasoned South Korean creatives in the fashion and lifestyle industry, fashion brand Cost per Kilo has since become a popular staple in the wardrobe of an increasing number of young urbanites on home turf and far beyond. A little while ago, Cost per Kilo inaugurated its very first flagship store at home base Seoul, securing a location in the highly fashionable downtown neighbourhood of Dosan Park. Occupying a 78.12 sqm. (841 sq.ft.) retail space on the first floor of an existing low-rise brick building, it’s flooded with daylight thanks to a series of expansive roof windows. Mind you, the interior has been entirely redeveloped, while there was also a serious effort to retain the structure’s history and material palette.

As such, the finishes were barely restored so as to emphasise the raw quality of the original materials, and the exposed brick surfaces were harmonised with new materials. Designed by Seoul-based architecture practice Creative Studio Unravel, the setting is based on a so-called ‘white warehouse’ concept, and the light-flooded, pared down setting makes a beautiful backdrop to display the merchandise. A suspended, intricately designed steel hanging system with embedded tubular lights has been installed. This system, which can be modified when required, isn’t just practical, but also shapes the Cost per Kilo retail space and regulates the flows of shoppers inside.
