Brazil has had its ups and downs as a luxury market due economic and political turbulence. That said, certain luxury brands have always been present, albeit ones with a largely mainstream appeal. In recent years, an increasing number of esteemed fashion-forward brands have opened up shop, and the latest one to arrive is Comme des Garçons. The iconic Tokyo-based brand, headed by creative director Rei Kawakubo, has secured a 160 sqm. (1,722 sq.ft.) unit on the upper floor at Shopping Iguatemi São Paulo, arguably the leading luxury shopping centre in São Paulo. Designed by Kawakubo and the Comme des Garçons in-house design team, the retail space sees concrete flooring paired with a myriad of white furnishings in both angular and organic shapes, seemingly bound together by steel arches and horizontal extension which serve as clothing racks. In celebration of the store opening, Kawakubo designed a temporary pink installation dedicated to the Comme de Garçons Homme Plus line, which stands right outside the store (on view until Jul 1). So, what’s on the shelves? Quite a lot, actually. The new Comme des Garçons store stocks men’s and women’s pieces of the following lines: Comme des Garçons, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, CDG Shirt, CDG Shirt Forever, CDG Wallet and CDG Play, including the footwear collaboration with Converse. © superfuture
