For many Czechs and Slovaks, Slevomat is the ultimate tool to secure a prized escape from the daily grind or snap up discounted trophies of any kind. Founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Tomáš Čupr, the online platform has become the go-to place for bargains in travel, wellness or dining experiences. Boosting the client’s experience, Slevomat recently inaugurated an offline store in the downtown Prague. Occupying a unit 30 sqm. (323 sq.ft.) on the premises of Černá Růže, a listed 19th-century modernist building by Czech architect Oldřich Tyl (1884-1939), it features an interior by local architecture practice RDTH. Clean, understated, and featuring light blue as an all-encompassing colour, the retail space is sparsely decorated or furnished, but sees a distinct interior design thanks to a cleverly balanced configuration which makes the most of the store’s dimensions.

One side of the space is covered by a floor-to-ceiling flowy curtain which curves at the end, largely concealing the back wall at the same time. Near the window, it’s overlaid by a large Slevomat logo. The opposite side wall features a recessed shelving unit with an embedded flat screen showing a rotation of branded content snippets. Additional furnishings are few and simple, and merely comprise three metal tables, with laptops, and paired with matching stools, all in a matching light blue colour, of course. Here, shoppers can sit back and leisurely browse for the hundreds of bargains on offer and make their pick. Lighting comprises ceiling light spots and a suspended snake tube light which meanders across the ceiling. © superfuture
