French-born artist Jean Jullien (1983), a graduate of both Central Saint Martin‘s and the Royal College of Art, two of London‘s most prestigious schools, has landed an exhibition at NANZUKA gallery in Tokyo. Held at Sushi Saito Hanare NANZUKA, the collaborative venue with renowned Michelin-starred Sushi Saito restaurant in the city’s Naka Meguro district, the solo show is entitled 残り物 THE LEFTOVERS. In recent years, Jullien has expanded his practice to include canvas works and installation art, particularly sculpture pieces. His previous major shows were held at locations across the planet, including The Departure, a large-scale installation featuring his signature Paper People riding a flying carpet, presented at Tokyo‘s GINZA SIX shopping centre, the solo exhibition Then, There (2022) at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul. the Studiolo (2023) solo exhibition at the Mima Museum in Brussels, and next week, a large-scale installation at the France Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka. The current 残り物 THE LEFTOVERS exhibition displays six canvases painted between 2021 and 2023, depicting subjects such as boats, trains, and quietly contemplative portraits. The works evoke lingering moments in time and subtle traces of human presence. The exhibition title refers not only to things left behind, but also to fragments of emotion that remain within the artist himself, indeed echoes of memory and feeling that speak to the overlooked moments of everyday life we all share (on through Jun 27). © superfuture
