With Alessandro Michele now firmly at the helm at Valentino, things have already shifted towards a more quirky artistic level. Following the creative director’s first Valentino collection during Paris Fashion Week last September, he has now pulled strings in the retail domain, introducing an intriguingly immersive sound installation at the Valentino flagship store on swanky Madison Avenue in New York City on Thu – May 15 (2pm-midnight). Aptly entitled L’Atelier Sonore, the installation has been developed in collaboration with Terraforma, an Italian collective which focuses on experimentation in sound and ecology. An intimate audio boudoir has been designed by architect Francesco Lupia, featuring sleek low benches, a matching sound installation with an old school record player, and last but not least, curtains all around.

On the opening day only (2pm-midnight), visitors can indulge in a 10-hour marathon of intimate vinyl listening sessions joined by, in order of appearance, artists Laraaji, Lea Bertucci, Laurel Halo, Lizzi Bougatsos, Chuquimamani-Condori, Kevin Beasley, Veronica Vasicka, and Physical Therapy, to create a continuously evolving musical experience. Mind you, each session will last around 45 minutes as a vinyl set drawn from each of the artist’s personal archive. In keeping with the intimate nature of the venue, artists are invited to share the records, the stories, and the silences in between. Register here for access to the in-store installation on the opening day. From May 16 through August, the installation will be open daily during shopping hours. © superfuture
