Following a standalone store in Tokyo and a shop-in-shop at Dover Street Market Ginza, cult skateboard brand PALACE has expanded its retail profile in the Land of the Rising Sun with a new outpost in Osaka. Occupying the ground and first floors of a modern multi-storey 1990s building in the downtown Shinsaibashi neighbourhood, PALACE tapped local practice KITA and Architects to create a fitting interior design. Using a minimalist palette comprising concrete, timber and steel, the interior takes cues from PALACE‘s birth place England, Japan, and unsurprisingly, also Osaka. The design of the ground floor sees a sizeable concrete block in the shape of the letter ‘P’ take centre stage. Voluminous and uncluttered, the space sees a recessed, timber-clad display space on one side, while the opposite side is clad in mirrors, which make the space optically even bigger, while also featuring a series of skate decks. The sales booth at the far end is adorned with a large campaign image shot by renowned lensman David Sims. A sleek metal staircase leads to the upper floor where shoppers find a similar recessed display, but on both sides, while here, a bulldog statue sits in the middle. Additional furnishings include separate shoe and luggage displays, in addition to a large PALACE Triferg neon sign. The new PALACE store carries the full range of apparel, accessories, shoes and skate decks. © superfuture
