Following the opening of an outpost in Nolita in 2022, its first outpost stateside, Montreal-based women’s shoe brand Maguire has inaugurated a second boutique in New York City. Sibling founders Romy and Myriam Maguire have secured a location on Berry Street in Williamsburg, occupying a 500 sq.ft. (approx. 47 sqm.) unit on the premises of a redeveloped 1940s industrial building. The interior design sees a renewed collaboration with Perron, an interior design practice based in Montreal. More or less an extrapolation from the chosen aesthetic of Maguire‘s first retail space in the Big Apple, here, the setting juggles much more ‘raw’ and ‘polished’ elements, given the building’s architectural legacy which has been cleverly embedded.

A backdrop of whitewashed bare brick walls and concrete flooring are paired with a tightly curated series of colourful volumes. A sales counter, clad in purple tiles, takes centre stage, flanked by a low bench and display in deep red, an orange-infused mirror and matching sofa on one side, and a large nook with shelving in soft and a small white display at the back. The opposite wall is lined with an additional large and tiered shelving unit, but all white, balancing out the setting’s abundance of bold hues. Lighting comprises a pendant lamp in shiny metal, which ties in with the silver tube-framed mirror which hangs near the entrance, and bulb wall lamps. The new Maguire store carries a selection of its women’s shoes. © superfuture
