Contemporary cafés and patisseries are all the rage in Athens, and the newly opened Moden café combines the best of both worlds. Occupying a lofty 40 sqm. (431 sq.ft.) space on the ground floor of a five-storey residential building in the city’s emerging Pangrati neighbourhood, Moden has been founded by Pavlos Tsiolekas, a young chef with an ardent passion for pastry. Mind you, it’s not only a café and patisserie, but also a workshop, all rolled into one. The interior design, created by Georgios Apostolopoulos, an architect based in Athens and London, oozes Nordic-style minimalism. The café space, which comes with large inviting windows on two sides, features a pristine white backdrop for custom-made furnishings crafted from timber and metal yet meticulously adapted to Moden‘s requirements and purpose. The space is anchored by a kitchen and bar from where where the pastry and coffee is served, while additional custom-made furnishings, such as bar seating paired with metal stools, a low bench paired with tables and stools, are arranged along the perimeter of the space. A sleek steel staircase leads to a cutesy mezzanine. Moden‘s menu lists a selection of freshly made pastries and various coffee concoctions. © superfuture
