The long-anticipated Rosewood Amsterdam has finally swung open its doors. Originally built in the 17th-century as an orphanage, then transformed by architect Jan de Greef (1784-1834) into a Neoclassical city landmark known as the Palace of Justice little over two centuries later, it’s now a haven of luxury that has upped the ante in the upper segment of Amsterdam‘s hospitality scene. Straddled alongside Prinsengracht, one of the city’s four main canals, the property features 134 guest rooms, including five signature houses that offer a residential-inspired stay. The premises have been meticulously designed by Studio Piet Boon, a Dutch design practice which has previously collaborated on a number of other Rosewood properties across the planet, blending modern luxury amenities and Dutch contemporary art into the building’s historical context. Offering all the comfort and necessities of today’s discerning traveller, the design of the guest rooms is anchored by a palette of rich greys and deep blues, a nod to the ever-changing Dutch sky. Stylish yet homey, the setting sees layered textures and curated artworks which offer guests a personalised environment that also signals the Dutch capital’s unique cultural vibe.

As for the aforementioned houses, the Herengracht House, with all the amenities of a luxury private apartment, is without doubt the most lavish. The interior design features luxurious furniture and textiles, and an array of decorative pieces that reference Amsterdam’s glorious mercantile past. The eye for detail is also very evident in the hotel’s courtyard garden, which has been designed by Piet Oudolf. Here, the renowned Dutch landscape architect allows biodiversity and native flora to thrive, redefining the concept of gardens along the way. A stay at Rosewood Amsterdam comes with a number of indulging and top-notch facilities which further add to the sense of luxury on the premises. The Advocatuur bar, a clear reference to the building’s judicial legacy, redefines mixology, with a setting inspired by that specific past. Here, specialty cocktails are paired with a wide range of Indian-inspired bites.

At the heart of Rosewood Amsterdam sits The Court, a stylish, welcoming lobby lounge which captures the vibrant spirit of the city, and where hotel guests mingle with discerning locals. An all-day venue, it offers a fitting menu of local and international comfort food, indulgent patisseries, and a refined afternoon tea experience. In the evening, The Court becomes a haven for intimate conversations over expertly crafted nightcaps. Last but not least, there’s Eeuwen, a dining establishment where chef David Ordóñez pulls out all the stops with a seasonal, ingredient-driven menu that highlights slow dining. Here, the setting is designed by London-based interior design practice Sagrada, featuring a botanical aesthetic that takes cues from the city’s historical greenhouses. The good life at Rosewood Amsterdam also has a soothing side, and it’s called is Asaya Spa. This tranquil retreat is entirely dedicated to the art of ancient healing from the Far East, Ayurvedic philosophies, and innovative Western therapies. Measuring no less than 560 sqm. (6,028 sq.ft.), the spa includes a pool, sauna, steam room, five treatment rooms, a 24-hour fitness centre, and boutique pilates studio. © superfuture
