Following the opening of Hotel Escondido, and Terrestre, two alluring properties in Puerto Escondido, the Mexican resort gains a third outpost by boutique hotel company Grupo Habita. Called Hotel Humano, it’s once again a design-led stunner that ticks all of our boxes. Situated a just stone’s throw away from Playa Zicatela, a popular destination for surf aficionados, the design of the property is a collaborative effort of Mexico City-based architect Jorge Hernández de la Garza and Plantea, an architecture practice based in Madrid. Hotel Humano features just 39 guest rooms, including 8 suites. The premises are understated yet splendorous in its simplicity, captured by a palette of concrete, clay tiles and bricks, and tropical wood, which reflect the location’s relaxed vibe. However, it’s ingeniously designed and constructed,  and it’s the double-height lobby which arguably demonstrates this understated architectural grandeur best through latticed structures that cleverly merge the interior and exterior.

The rooms have been designed with a sharp eye for detail, and the chosen aesthetic is similarly rooted in the culture of Oaxaca. By using freestanding walls and curtains, separate areas for sleepoing, bathing and relaxing are created in a playful way, and largely captured by burgundy-coloured glazed tiles by Cerámica San Pedro. Adding an authentic artistic touch to each room are drawings by renowned Mexican artist and architect Lucio Muniain. Needless to day, Hotel Humano‘s public spaces are aesthetically a seamlessly extension, featuring custom fabrics in dark-orange, off-white, and wine-coloured hues, including quilts by Reina Silva at Dushill studio as well as screens, doors, and furniture crafted from tropical woods by Javier Gómez. As a destination where to unwind and indulge in the good life, a stay at Hotel Humano comes with a set of matching facilities.

The lobby coffee shop is the perfect pitstop for any time of the day, serving freshly made, locally sourced coffee. The hotel restaurant, called Bistró, is a intimate and laid-back space serving simple, fresh dishes from the region overseen by executive chef Saúl Carranza and with dinners by chef Marion Chateau of La Relève in Marseille. Up on the roof, the aptly named Sunset Bar can be found. Here, craft cocktails and a selection of bar bites are paired with sweeping views of the Pacific. But that’s not all. An outdoor spa features a sauna, two cold plunges and a massage room for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. Coming up in the course of the year, is a full-fledged seaside beach club with six private bungalows, an oceanfront swimming pool and sun deck with beds and hammocks, and last but not least, a grill-style restaurant serving fresh seafood. © superfuture
