Self-taught and with a quirky irreverent attitude that’s emblematic of his digital generation, Melbourne-based designer Jack Ferguson has gained a growing global following with his streetwear label Jungles Jungles. Since its inception in 2015, the brand has gone leaps and bounds, and is now being stocked at a large number of stores across the planet. Taking his operations to a new level, Ferguson has very recently opened the very first Jungles Jungles retail space. The store, situated in the Fitzroy area of town, occupies a 80 sqm. (861 sq.ft.) inside a brick Victorian warehouse building with a period façade. Still firmly in autodidactical mode, Ferguson took the interior design in his own hands with a little help from local set builder Oliver Elcock.

An oasis of raw understatement, albeit one with playful tweaks, the originally voluminous space now sees a lowered ceiling with three circular skylights, while sleek linear light fixtures dangle from it on either side of the space. Accentuating the industrial aesthetic, a sizeable metal-clad sales counter sits at the back and ties in with a low bench in the corner. Additional furnishings and fixtures comprise black steel clothing racks, recessed shelving an display units, a monolithic pedestal, and a chair. Concealed behind a wall panel, a fitting room can be found. A floor-to-ceiling curtain demarcates the retail space. Mind you, the back of the building is home to a 120 sqm. (1,292 sq.ft.) workspace.
