Originally built as a theatre dance hall in the 17th century, Le Palais in Paris was transformed into a nightclub in the late 1970s, shaping the lives of many youth, including a young Hedi Slimane, creative director of Celine. Then owner Fabrice Emaer, already legendary for managing a string of the City of Lights‘ hottest clubs, propelled the venue into the global limelight by revamping its interior and installing its iconic modern chandelier of neon lights and throwing hotly anticipated, evocative parties. Yesterday, the creative director of Celine stepped back in time – well, sort of – to present the brand’s Men’s Winter 2023 Collection at these hallowed grounds, and obviously, in the presence of an abundance of familiar faces from the fashion, music and entertainment scene. including Jack White, Catherine Deneuve, Pete Doherty, Joséphine de La Baume, Lili Sumner and Joseph Rozé.

For this collection, Slimane delves into today’s youth’s rediscovery of the 2000s electro clash and electronic rocks sounds and scenes, a movement that’s emerging in leading cities like London, Paris and New York City. Slimane pays tribute to the latter city’s proto-punk band Suicide, formed in 1977 by Alan Vega and Martin Rev, and which continues to inspire music scenes to this day. Key to this Celine collection are the tight black leather pants, paired in double leather with biker and racer jackets customised with studs or rhinestones. The coats are worn oversized and they’re cut out of cashmere or English tweeds recreated in a traditional loom. The suits are slightly raised and worn with cropped flared trousers. The embroideries are handmade in the house’s ateliers. Last but not least, the models wore Celine‘s Nightclubbing perfume, part of its Haute Parfumerie Collection. Shown here are nine looks from the collection that we particularly like.
