The good life in Shanghai just got a little better. We’re talking 蓝城 · 花海芳香小镇, or in plain English, Blue City · Flower Sea Fragrant Town, a lavish club house set in the lush greens of Huakai Sea Ecological Park, just south of the Chinese megalopolis. The Blue City club house, lavishly designed by WJ STUDIO, an architecture and interior design practice based in Hangzhou and Shanghai, is a destination for the true hedonist at heart, albeit one with a penchant for Chinese culture and aesthetics. Speaking of which, in Chinese aesthetics, a beautiful space usually is defined as a small pavilion on a verdant mountain or a secluded garden at the end of a noisy street, and unsurprisingly, Blue City pretty much lives up to this idyllic image. The venue comprises a social living room, an aroma spa, and last but not least, a private banquet club, all in a resort-like setting. Blue city is housed in a succession of low-rise buildings, featuring a series of contemporary timber-infused settings with a subtle Chinese look and feel.
The sense of calm and relaxation is reinforced by Blue City‘s additional aromatic areas with a focus on flowers and experiences, and which seamlessly connect to the aforementioned three sections. Sipping tea over good conversation is a preferred pastime in China, and obviously, the social living room readily accommodates with its contemporary yet elegant setting which has taken Chinese Zen-style brush painting as its inspiration source. The ceiling is simplified with a Chinese sloping roof as a prototype, echoing the theme of Zen. The aroma spa sees light yet warm wood colours to emphasise the sensorial experience, bringing a more intimate and comfortable feeling and allowing guests to achieve a state of full mental relaxation. The mix of woods, combined with the addition of ceiling flowers attached to the interior fittings, also accentuate the herbaceous feel of the space. The spa and guest rooms boast a darker colour palette and light and shadow effects that enable guests to rest and recuperate. The design of the aromatic showcase adds to the sense of a fully relaxing getaway.
