Sustainable fashion brand bassike has opened a band new store in Melbourne‘s leafy neighbourhood of Armadale. The Sydney-based company secured a 170 sqm. (1,830 sq.ft.) retail space on High Street, the area’s fast-emerging shopping artery, and features an interior design by architecture practice and longtime collaborator Akin Atelier. Similar to bassike‘s other retail spaces across Australia, the setting here is understated yet welcoming and full of character, thanks to an inviting colour palette of timber, moss green and darker wood tones, while also subtly referencing the city’s urban landscape. True to its eco-conscious principles, bassike partnered with locally-made and fellow Climate Active-certified brand Jardan on a number of the store’s furnishings, including a sculptural modular sofa in wool bouclé fabric.

The seating area sits in between warm timber frameworks with shelving and window dividers that add both a playful visual layering, and is accompanied by an artwork of Melbourne-based contemporary landscape artist Eleanor Millard. Situated directly opposite, a large, elongated display cabinet, connects the front section with the double-height atrium space at the back of the boutique. Additional furnishings have been sourced from B Corp-certified furniture brand Armadillo, such as locally made bronze lighting sconces by Henry Wilson and a handcrafted wool Cappelen Dimyr rug. Adjacent to the atrium space, in a recessed timber-infused section, three fitting rooms can be found. The new bassike store carries the brand’s full range of women’s and men’s apparel, denim pieces, accessories, bags, footwear and jewellery pieces.
