It’s undeniable, the greatest fashion brands are run by the greatest fashion designers, and this rare breed is blessed with an unbridled creativity and curiosity. Enter Dior‘s menswear designer Kim Jones. The hailed British creative dared to allow an external talent to join in the creation of the Dior Spring 2023 Men’s Capsule Collection, and called on Eli Russell Linnetz, another multi-tasking creative with growing cult status in fashion land since he’s the mastermind behind contemporary hippie brand ERL. Jones simply wished to see Dior from an entirely different angle, and since he liked Linnetz’s work, he thought handing over the creative reigns would be an interesting venture for the luxury brand. Interestingly, the duo delved into the Dior archive from the year 1991, that’s when Linnetz was born and Italian designer Gianfranco Ferré (1944-2007) was Dior‘s creative director, and it’s a part of the house’s legacy that felt crispy and fresh to both of them.

So, Dior goes Venice, California – ERL’s funky home base and eternal source of inspiration – to present the Dior Spring 2023 Men’s Capsule Collection. Well, it all happened last night. Presented on the final stretch of Windward Avenue, right in front of the palm tree-dotted beach, the collection reimagined and revived the house as never before, combining the creative vision of both, resulting in a fusion of pop sensibility and american male archetypes infused with classic Dior motifs, albeit with a playful twist. The iconic Cannage motif is made into satin and leather quilting into skate sneakers or in unravelled form on crystal-encrusted pants. A more slouching and easeful sensibility belies the precision of tailoring, in particular with ocean-recovered polyester tailored looks which are padded as a nod to Ferré’s remarkable contribution to Dior. Shown here are nine looks from the Dior Spring 2023 Men’s Capsule Collection that we particularly like.
