Since its opening almost two decades ago, The Drake has become a preferred stomping ground for both the creative community in Toronto and their visiting counterparts from elsewhere in Canada and overseas. Preceding a major expansion – mind you, the property has also added a brand new wing with 32 guest rooms – the hotel has inaugurated a beautiful Artist Loft. Measuring 800 sq.ft. (74 sqm.) spread across two levels, it serves as as a home base for touring musicians and artists with a gig at Drake Underground, a popular on-site music venue, and those participating in The Drake’s Artist in Residence programme. Situated right next to the hotel on Queen Street West, it’s a second-floor walk-up apartment, consisting of two private bedrooms, an open loft space, a communal leisure area and a kitchenette, all designed by acclaimed Canadian design practice DesignAgency and featuring custom-made furnishings. Obviously comfy and meeting all requirements of today’s traveller, the Artist Loft is also homey and well-designed, brimming with pops of colour and social spaces that boost collaboration and creativity. Booking the Artist Loft comes with a slew of amenities, including 50-inch flat-screen TV with cable, high-speed internet, MALIN+GOETZ toiletries, and its very own entrance.
