As Bali‘s ultimate contemporary resort, Potato Head caters to savvy demographic of holiday seekers from across the globe with alluring design-led accommodation and facilities that seamlessly adapt to their sensibilities. Its latest innovation at its Seminyak home base on the tropical island’s west coast, is a new studio space and record store called headstream. The venue is situated at the entrance of Desa Potato Head, right below artist Nano Uhero’s giant bamboo archway, and is fully compatible with the company’s eco-friendly stance. The headstream venue, designed by Bali-based practice ZXC Studio, is crafted from repurposed materials. The design includes no less than 564 kilograms of recycled plastic, motor oil bottles have been repurposed into panels, and mineral water caps have been collected from waterways across the island to form the display window and interior surfaces, and last but not least, all 170 kilograms of flooring has been formulated out of industrial rubber rejects. Next to the physical space, headstream is a digital streaming platform which aims to shed a light on the myriad of voices, stories and sounds from Indonesia and around the world.

Last weekend’s official opening saw 30 artists perform live from their respective locations on Bali and in Melbourne, inluding acts such as Dea Barandana, DJ Jnett, Kita, Gabbus Modus Operandi, Komang and Mairakilla. The platform is set to stream live daily from 7am-7pm (local time), predominantly live from the studio, but also occasionally accompanied by contributions from satellite locations in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Malang. On top of the intimate view from inside the studio, cameras will be stationed across the Potato Head premises, enabling viewers to tune in, with off-site visuals in the pipeline too. Additionally, those who prefer simply listening can opt for an audio only option. A communal work space neighbours the studio, serving jamu concoctions, tea and pour-over coffee. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in books, alongside listening and shopping their way through a carefully curated collection of new Indonesian vinyl releases and zines. Beginning with music, the headstream programme will soon also feature documentary films and other surprise progressions, fuelled by a core notion: to discover new pathways that facilitate the appealing dynamic of the brand, while also enhancing its offering of music, art and dialogue.
