At long last, travel restriction across Europe are being eased, and yes, it’s inciting a much needed trip to the sunny Med. Opening its doors off the beaten track of Portugal‘s hugely popular coastal region of Algarve, is the homely yet stylish Casa Três. As its name already implies, it’s the third property of the Addresses, a boutique hospitality chain founded by Bert Jeuris and Ludovic Beun. The Belgian duo, who’ve respectively earned theirs spurs in wine trade and as creative director in the music and entertainment industry, once again picked a historic building and turned it into a alluring contemporary holiday retreat. Casa Três occupies a former merchant’s house in downtown Vila Real de Santo António, a scenic coastal town alongside the Guadiana River and smack on the border with Spain. Situated a stone’s throw away from the central town square, the house has been fully renovated by Lisbon-based architecture practice Atelier Rua and features an interior design by Studio Stories, a creative agency based in Ghent.

The modest traditional façade conceals grand living, captured by a spacious and airy ground floor, comfortable guest rooms and a beautiful patio with dipping pool. Needless to say, Casa Três effortlessly appeals to a design-initiated demographic, and does so with a demure palette of terrazzo floors and sinks, lacquered wood, and large swathes of stuccoed white walls. The ground floor sees two bedrooms, a spacious and light living room with a vaulted ceiling, and an adjacent open kitchen. The carefully sourced furnishings and objects aren’t just easy on the eye, but also lend the space a warm homey vibe. The sunny patio offers guests full privacy, and comes with a relaxing dipping pool and highly decorative citrus tree, making it a prized bonus. A staircase leads to several upper terraces and the property’s third bedroom. All rooms at Casa Três have an adjacent bathroom, and the property accommodates up to six people.
