The house of Alexander McQueen has just revealed imagery of its S/S 2022 Men’s Collection, shot by renowned fashion photographer Paolo Roversi. The collection is inspired by the work of William Blake (1757-1827), a poet and artist who is widely considered an icon of English literature. Drawing on the concept of imagination as a pure form of escapism, creative director Sarah Burton‘s designs are centred around lightness, air and water—on beauty emerging from darkness. This notion has been translated into a series of both smart and quirky looks, including shirts with ruffles, asymmetrical skirts and dresses made of organza and chiffon in bright colours. Once again, it’s a collection which challenges the traditional notion of masculinity and references the brand’s punk aesthetic. A number of garments, including a T-shirt, silk shirts and trousers, feature a print based on Blake’s illustrations for Dante Alighieri‘s masterpiece Divina Commedia.
