Having dusted off the image of a Spanish luxury brand while also wooing both Millennials and Generation Z with whimsical designs for his very own eponymous house, designer JW Anderson has become the golden boy of fashion. Needless to say, the sensibilities of the Northern Irish native have become a coveted commodity, and the latest to forge a collaboration is iconic eyewear purveyor Persol. In this collaboration, the centenary brand that is rooted in Italian design excellence meets the brilliant vision of JW Anderson. This melting of ideas that blended into the design process has resulted in two pieces that truly embody the spirit of both brands. From the distinctive visual narrative of the designer’s roots to his experience of Ibiza and the colourful freedom of island life, Anderson knows just how to make the iconic contemporary: with unexpected juxtapositions. Echoing the DNA of the Persol brand, Anderson melds cross-category design with nonchalant eclecticism, tailoring the unmistakable identity of the original 649 and disruptive profile of the 0009 to the look of new generation trendsetters with experimental colour effects. Both styles have a long history and in different moments in time they have been true landmarks for the the brand, yet also beyond, becoming cultural icons. Indeed, it’s just what we needed this summer!
