Developed by a Norwegian startup company, reMarkable is an e-ink writing tablet for reading documents and textbooks, sketching and note-taking with the goal of a paper-like writing experience. Despite the global online of its products online, reMarkable believes in the added value of physical retail for its growing client base through personal interaction in a branded space, and to test the water, the company has launched a pop-up store at home base Oslo. The ephemeral space sits on the ground floor of a monumental late 19th-century building in the heart of the city, rubbing shoulders with high-end fashion boutiques, and features an interior design by acclaimed architecture practice Snøhetta. Set in a clean and uncluttered space, a wooden display, desks and benches in various heights are situated, all equipped with reading lights and part of a circular configuration which is clearly is a reference to libraries. The setting is framed by walls and ceiling in a deep shade of blue and concrete flooring. In order to improve acoustics, most of the walls are covered with pulp acoustic panels with a paper-like finish and display shelves are painted white to blend. The pop-up store presents the reMarkable 2, the company’s new and improved tablet, which can be tried out, and of course purchased, on the spot.
