As one of the most popular luxury brands, Gucci cleverly banks on this stature by expanding its retail presence across the globe, and it does so at key locations. Consistently ranking in the Top 3 of Europe’s busiest airports, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is such a location. Hot on the heels of the opening of a relocated and bigger store in the Dutch capital, an event we talked about in a previous post, it’s here where the Italian fashion house has raised its profile with a brand new boutique. Occupying a standalone unit with a double-height façade, the store boldly stands out from its surroundings, beckoning travellers from afar. The motif of interwoven marble bands on the exterior is replicated inside on the floor, anchoring creative director Alessandro Michele‘s tweaked Romantic aesthetic. Soft elements like velvet stools and an ottoman, as well as armchairs and vintage dark wood display furniture, offset harder surfaces and industrial elements, such as rivets, and as intended, the setting oozes the atmosphere of a ‘cabinet of curiosities’, just as Michele intended. Furnishings include glass cabinets, a display table, and a seating arrangement with vintage rug. The new Gucci boutique carries handbags, luggage pieces, small leather goods, shoes, silks and eyewear.
