Following stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and since late last year Nagoya, Stüssy further expands in the Land of the Rising Sun with Stüssy Chapter Kyoto. Situated in the heart of Kyoto, a few blocks south of the Imperial Palace and directly opposite the Paul Smith boutique, it occupies a single-floor structure with a small recessed courtyard in front alongside Sanjo-dori. Similarly to most other Stüssy retail spaces around the globe, the interior design has been created by Perron-Roettinger, a design practice based in Los Angeles. The understated Stüssy aesthetic is evident, and is meticulously adapted to the dimensions of the location. A grey band adorns the lower part of pristine white walls, lending the setting a utilitarian edge. The elongated space sees seemingly make-shift timber carpentry lining the walls, serving to display apparel items and other merchandise, and playfully incorporating a planter along the way. The back of the store sees an exposed ceiling and a seating area, with an other planter embedded, crafted from concrete blocks and marble, and two metal shelving units. Additional furnishings comprise a large display table and display cabinet. The new Stüssy store carries the brand’s full range of apparel and accessories.
